Product Design Lead - Lift London

The Lift Labs Team invent cutting-edge innovative products that create impact and magic in the marketplace. 

This role oversees physical product design, invention and engineering, taking wild ideas from dreams to prototypes to reality.

Key Accountabilities:
Lead Product Design & Engineering
- Drive product design and development by harnessing your design & engineering expertise from a variety of fields including industrial design, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. 
- Concept, produce and engineer physical prototypes and specifications with 3D modelling, CAD software, rapid manufacturing technologies. 
- Develop and manage network of external vendors to bring the right skills and expertise into the product process.
- Communicate your vision and ideas with the Innovation Director and the rest of the team through sketches, visualisations and prototypes. 
- Collaborate with other key members of the Lift Labs Team to deliver on a holistic product vision and business strategy. 

Innovate Product Experiences & Strategy
- Work with the Innovation Director to set high-level strategy for products 
- Understand consumer needs and participate in user research and insights analysis
- Understand business needs and participate in discussions around business analysis and planning 
- Contribute to design of product software and user experiences to create holistic physical/digital experiences. 
- Be a hands-on member of the team, helping to prototype on the software side where necessary 
- Be an advocate and expert for innovation and design process 

Oversee Supply Chain & Manufacturing 
- Own the process for taking physical products from prototype to manufacture 
- Establish performance and quality criteria for production 
- Oversee Supply Chain and Manufacturers, working with other parts of Microsoft to establish process 
- Educate the rest of the team on the manufacturing process 
- Establish external and internal partnerships to help the business deliver on products and seek out new opportunities

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in industrial/product design and mechanical engineering 
- Sketching, 3D modelling, CAD software
- Electrical engineering background or deep knowledge of electronic prototyping ideally including ability to design PCBs for fabrication 
- Knowledge of electronic sensors, actuators, circuitry 
- Experience with rapid manufacturing techniques 
- Some experience with software prototyping in environments such as Unity, Visual Studio, Xcode, Flash, etc.
